The appropriate option depends on tooth position, bite, gum health, age or growth when relevant, and treatment complexity.
What Braces May Address
Braces may be considered for crowding, spacing, rotated teeth, and selected bite concerns. They do not correct every jaw relationship or complex orthodontic problem. Impacted teeth, major growth concerns, surgical needs, or complex movements may be referred to an orthodontic specialist.

During Treatment
Braces require scheduled adjustment and monitoring visits. Brushing around brackets and cleaning between teeth are essential because plaque can collect around the appliances. Broken brackets, poking wires, new swelling, significant pain, or another change should be reported rather than waiting for the next routine visit.
Braces or Clear Aligners?
Braces remain attached to the teeth and can manage movements that may be difficult with removable trays. Clear aligners are less noticeable and can be removed for meals and cleaning, but they must be worn as directed and are not appropriate for every case. The examination—not appearance alone—should guide the choice.
Retainers After Treatment
A retainer is usually needed after active tooth movement because teeth can shift over time. Retainer type and wear schedule vary. Contact the office if a retainer cracks, feels loose, or stops fitting; do not force it into place.
